The Development History Of Heating Element

Heating elements have a long history that is closely intertwined with the development of science and technology, particularly in the field of electricity. From their humble beginnings to today's sophisticated designs and applications, electric heating elements continue to play an important role in various aspects of industry.

In 1841, James Joule discovered Joule's law, which explains the relationship between electric current, resistance and heat. This discovery laid the foundation for the development of electric heating elements.

In 1859, Edward Simpson of England patented the first electric heating element consisting of a metal wire wound in a metal tube, as well as a metal wire covered with ceramic insulating material as the heating body. However, the process equipment at that time was not sophisticated, there was no suitable resistance wire and only iron wire with a very small resistivity level. So the invention could not be applied.

In 1910, the United States succeeded in producing a nickel-chromium alloy that could withstand high temperatures and high resistivity and better non-organic insulating materials promoted the progress of electric heating elements.

In 1918, General Electric in the United States patented a heating element design with a heating wire inside a metal tube and a powder insulator material.

In the 1950s, manufacturing technology became more sophisticated, supporting the production of cheaper and more efficient electric heating elements.

Then in the mid-20th century, Bulten Kanthal and Oakley promoted electric heating elements worldwide.

Since then, electric heating elements have continued to evolve with various designs and applications, such as industrial ovens, tank heaters, and other industrial equipment.
